Izolyator at the largest electric energy production and transmission seminar in Latin America

From November 26 to 29, 2023, the Izolyator Group took part in the XXVII National Seminar on The Production and Transmission of Electric Energy, held in Brasilia.

The National Seminar on The Production and Transmission of Electric Energy (Seminário Nacional de Produção e Transmissão de Energia Elétrica — SNPTEE) is held annually in Brazil and is considered the largest in Latin America and the second largest in the world. The seminar is attended by energy, engineering and consulting companies, power equipment OEMs, research centers, universities, utilities and other organizations in the power sector and electrical engineering. The seminar is accompanied by ExpoSNPTEE, which brings together leading suppliers and buyers of equipment and services in the Brazilian electricity sector.

The delegation of the Izolyator Group, headed by Alexander Slavinsky, attended a number of seminar activities and held meetings with the management representatives of Brazilian electrical engineering and energy companies. The colleagues entered dialogue on cooperation prospects as well as ways to establish and develop partnerships in the light of the opportunities provided by the BRICS intergovernmental organization.

The main exhibit of Izolyator at the ExpoSNPTEE exhibition accompanying the seminar was a 500 kV transformer bushing with solid internal RIP insulation.

This spring marked a milestone in Russian-Brazilian cooperation in the field of electric power: based on the results of tests in Brazil, an Izolyator high-voltage bushing with internal RIP insulation was approved for use at energy facilities of the National Interconnected System (Sistema Interligado Nacional).

The practical outcome of that approval was seen in the purchase of such bushings to replace the OIP insulated analogues used on shunt reactors of the Teles Pires Transmission (TPLT) power transmission line. The first replacement operations were successfully carried out during August this year with the participation of the Izolyator Group.

Guaraciaba Transmissora de Energia S.A. and Matrinchã Transmissora de Energia S.A dedicated their report at the seminar to a comprehensive analysis of the shortcomings of OIP bushings, which led to a number of failures of power equipment, and the rationale for replacing them with RIP analogues. The companies build, operate and maintain the TPLT power facilities.

The report presented the results of comprehensive studies of the operating conditions and accidents of reactors with OIP bushings installed on them, a mathematical model of the electromagnetic field acting on a high-voltage bushing, as well as localized damage spots on OIP bushings, and carried out a comprehensive feasibility study of OIP units replacement, formulating requirements for the coming bushings and supplier selection criteria.

The report consistently and convincingly proved that the best solution is to replace OIP bushings with their RIP counterparts, as having significantly higher technical and operational characteristics.

The research and calculations carried out show that the cost of replacing bushings is certainly justified in the long term, providing strategic requirements for the reliable and safe operation of the TPLT power transmission line.

The exhibited bushing and other exhibition materials of the Izolyator Group were placed at the exhibition stand of the Brazilian engineering partner company TDM Service & Solutions, at the invitation and with the assistance of which the Izolyator Group took part in the seminar. Besides, TDM Service & Solutions acted as one of the sponsors of the seminar.

There was also a stand of the organizer of the seminar — the Brazilian National Committee for the Production and Transmission of Electric Energy (Comitê Nacional Brasileiro de Produção e Transmissão de Energia Elétrica — CIGRE-Brasil).

As Russia’s representative in the CIGRE Study Committee D1 Regular Member and the Head of CIGRE National Study Committee D1 (CIGRE NSC D1), the Head of Izolyator Group, Dr. Alexander Slavinsky visited the CIGRE-Brasil stand.

The CIGRE NSC D1 ‘Materials and Emerging Test Techniques’ operates on the basis of Izolyator-VV Production Complex of Izolyator Group, which was granted the status of the Leading Scientific and Technical Partner of Russian National Committee of CIGRE.

The subject area of CIGRE NSC D1 consists of new and existing materials and technologies for the electric power complex, technologies for diagnosing materials in the electric grid complex, and technologies for testing electrical materials.

The International Council on Large Electric Systems (French: Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques, CIGRÉ) is another area of interaction between the BRICS countries, a platform for coordinating research, exchanging experience and scientific and technical information on the functioning of electric power systems.

The seminar, coordinated by the Brazilian energy company Eletrobras Eletronorte, included the New Generation Network youth event, the Women's Forum (Fórum de Mulheres), the Forum of CEOs (Fórum de CEO's) and the first Academic Forum (Fórum Acadêmico), bringing together heads of universities and national research centers to discuss measures to expand interaction with CIGRE-Brasil and the electricity sector.
